Starting School

Here we are at the start of September, a time when many families and their children look forward to a new school year. This one however, we face with trepidation because we are still fighting the pandemic that is COVID-19.

Whilst many welcome the new term and perhaps some form of normality, for those with underlying health conditions, it heightens fears of ‘what if’. We can only be reassured by the schools that they are doing everything in their power, to follow government guidelines to help reduce the risk to both pupils and staff. As families, we too can do our part in supporting schools by doing what we can at home to help minimise risk.

The last 6 months have been frightening, overwhelming, filled with anxiety and we’ve been tested to our limits, but you have all adapted and we admire your courage and strength in what are very strange times.

We know that schools will look different. For many, children will remain in classrooms in their bubbles, with little social integration with other classes. There will be new rules to follow, but we know that our children will continue to grow and thrive in these new settings. They show great resilience and somewhat seem to cope and adapt much better than us grown ups.

Please don’t forget we have some resources available to help such as our alert cards, pocket guides to Hyperinsulinism, our Information for Schools brochure (downloadable), Chloe the Rabbit has Hyperinsulinism book as well as some great free downloads available from https://www.autismlittlelearners.com/search/label/My%20Freebies?m=1. Please do drop us a line at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. if you have any questions.

We would like to wish all our families and children the very best as the new term starts and we are always here to support you as always.

Best wishes
Michelle & Sarah
